From the description, I expected this disc to be somewhat scratched, and the case and insert to show a lot of wear. Instead, while not perfect in appearance, the case and the disc were in quite good condition. The disc plays perfectly and sounds outstanding. To be sure, Donald Fagen and Steely Dan are/were geniuses, so you can't go wrong if your taste runs that way.

The physical quality of the product itself is quite good; the music is less satisfying than I hoped it would be, mainly a reworking of earlier Steely Dan rhythms & beats with less-than inspired lyrics, except for "Things I Miss the Most". I can be candid because Steely Dan has been my favorite Rock, Jazz and R & B band for 4 decades; I purchased the album to add to complete my collection of their albums, & hopefully discover some hidden gems on this one.

I have always loved Steely Dans work and this is no exception, all great tracks.

3 years after Fagen and Becker reunited on the grammy winner "Two Against Nature" they are back with more cynicism, sarcasm, loathing and musical genius. THE LAST MALL, a smooth, slow groovin' guitar tune with Donald singing is great. THINGS I MISS THE MOST, the best song on the album, in my still humble opinion, is a great song. A great bass and percussion funk/jazz song with "poor-me" lyrics, soft synth and guitar. BLUES BEACH, LUNCH WITH GINA & EVERYTHING MUST GO are good, solid efforts. GODWHACKER is great, with a fantastic bass line, excellent guitar work and perfect backing vocals. SLANG OF AGES, a rare tune sung by Becker who usually stays away from the mike, is really nice. Like a Mo-town tune morphed in to a jazz/funk experiment. Great song. GREEN BOOK has that old SD sound, slow but feels fast, a song that gets you worked up waiting for it to take off. PIXELEEN is a solid bluesy effort. A definite must have for any SD fan, but recommended for those that are new to SD as well. This follows and mixes well with their other 21st century effort, "Two Against Nature". SD has evolved musically and a lot of old school SD fans are not pleased with the new, jazzier, less rock sound, but I love the direction that SD has taken as they continue to move not-so-gracefully in to mid-life. I love it!Read full review
Steely Dan's final effort, Fagen and Becker produced a record well worth owning and stands solidly on its own in the Steely Dan pantheon. Music well worth spending some listening time to.
