I bought Dead or Alive Material before they became famous and got into Pete Burns owing to his compelling presence on last years Celebrity Big Brother. I was too mean to buy Evolution, as I had a lot of the hits, and thought I would get it cheaper on ebay. The inside photo's made me laugh out loud, the nerve of the fella! The sleeve notes are not terribly well written, which surprised me for someone as articulate as Pete. However the disc is very good indeed. The part that appeals to me is his later history as he has some really, really good songs that didn't really chart over here. The best is 'Sex Drive' which is a real trannie techno number that will get you dancing around your handbags. It opens with a mock oriental lilt and gets into full drive. The lyrics are really fun too. Hit and Run Lover is also a great deal of fun with a real cheesy eurovision type chorus and hook. My only slight reservation is that this doesn't include Pete's very fist single (with Nightmares in Wax) 'Black Leather' and 'Neocleopatra' would have also gone in well. I do hope he records again soon!Read full review
While the selection of songs here surely can't be faulted, some diehard DOA fans might object to the extensive remixing that has been done in places -"My Heart Goes Bang", for example, is almost unrecognisable from the version on "Youthquake", although arguably this remix is even better than the original version. Generally the songs have been given a respectful dusting off rather than a complete overhaul and the running order works very well. Pete Burns's sleeve notes make amusing reading, but I can't help wishing that a few of the older photos had been included in the cd booklet - nothing wrong with the 2003 version of Pete, but a few Eighties and Nineties pics in there too would have been nice. But this is a pretty trivial point about what is basically a brilliant album - part of the reason I've since started buying up the DOA back catalogue is simply because I've overplayed "Evolution" so much. Bombastic, theatrical, dramatic, and always underpinned by Pete Burns' amazing operatic howl of a voice, this is a great introduction to one of the UK's most underrated pop bands.Read full review

I enjoy listening to music of the 80's generation and this CD so typifies its genre in excellent way. Thanks in bringing the memories back.
