Tis is five movies I have wanted to see sins I heard about them the first time, about 10-15 years ago, and Now Finally I have. And I must say, I didn't think they should be as good as they are. I have the comedic Louis De Funès collection of Fantômas from the 60's and Liked it, and I am a fan of Mike Patton's music in the band of the same name (and inspired by the 60's version of Fanômas) But this "original" silver-screen adaptation of the books are more raw and brutal. They are serious! The descriptions on the way people have died is making you think you actually have seen it, but they dont show it! Some of the acting are not that good, its to much theater over it, but that is because many of the actors during the silent era came from theater where your action has to be exaggerated. But some others are really great, specialty Edmund Breon who plays Inspecteur Juve, this man did a outstanding performance. I gets inspired by this, it makes me want to make my own silent movies! There are now only a few versions left for me to get, to have the complete Fantômas collection!Read full review

The Fantomas series, gothic horror/crime from the silent era, is fascinating to watch. Some themes and actions seem very modern, others seem to come from Victorian era. Fascinating piece of cultural history from French moviemaking!
