This is an excellent CD. Blistering duel guitars, smashing drums, chest thumping bass and vocals out of this world. Band originated in CT, my home state. Fates Warning kind of reminds me of a mix between Iron Maiden and Queensryche. One of the original lead guitarists, Vic Arduini, was replaced with John "X" Aresti, but the Fates Warning sound pressed on without skipping a beat. This CD shows how the band's sound evolved from their first two CD's Night on Brocken and The Spectre Within. In my opinion, If you don't have this CD yet, you're way behind the metal power curve.
At first listen, it seems like the typical late 80's early 90's metal. Further listening lets you in on mystical lore, but dig deep into the lyrics and you'll find the complex messages of corruption and egomanical elitests wrought with lust and greed. Not to mention what your human desire should be to ascend to the higher plane of existance..being stripped away by those evil powers. Put together with wonderful, timely riffs, top notch vocals and superb skill. One of the greatest metal releases that many have never heard...KJB
Whatcan I say to let you know not only is this the best Fates Warning Release it is also one of Metals Best Releases. Every Song, note, vocal, (Jon Arch) is musical perfection. 25 years old and still rocks better than ever.
Nice to be able to purchase this after not having it in my collection for awhile. I had lost my original copy.
