I've owned this album on vinyl for over 30 years. When the first song of the CD (Transylvania Boogie) began it nearly ripped my ears off. What was Frank thinking? The sound was so treble-y and shrill. VERY different from the sound of the LP I'm sure I'll get used to it. The rest of the album is fine. I think it is one of FZ's more overlooked gems. He did play a number of the songs live (Chunga's Revenge, Sharleena, Rudy Wants to Buy Yez a Drink) so he must have liked some of the songs. Heck, some of the songs ARE live (Nancy and Mary Music) Why is "Tell Me You Love Me" 10 seconds longer on the LP? I don't know. I'll have to check and see. All in all, I really like this CD, despite the change in tone of Transylvania Boogie.
Some purists will not like the fact that these Ryko FZ discs are remixed, but hey Frank did it himself before he died. Bottom line? They will sound great on todays stereo systems. This one is an interesting hybird album. We get some Zappa rock, some jazz, some Flo and Eddie, a little comedy, a little jamming and its all surprisingly accessible for even the casual listener who may find some of Franks other quirkier late sixties and early seventies albums hard to get a handle on. A transitional work, perhaps neither here nor there musically, but it's a pleasing and esoteric mix that touches all the bases and should be included in every respectable Zappa collection. Often available cheap on EBAY if you shop around. Get one!
Great cd 💿 I love it

While not as well-defined as Hot Rats, Chunga's Revenge is poised somewhere between the overall feeling of Hot Rats and the later musings of Fillmore East and Just Another Band from L.A., with Flo and Eddie lending a hand on vocals. As a result, it has something of a hybridized feeling to it, lacking the conceptual integrity of his other records of that era, but it's still just as enjoyable to listen to.
Solid Zappa with the Turtles ( Flo & Eddie ) incarnation. Solid rock album throughout starting off with the kick@$$ "Transilvania Boogie". The perfect companion piece to 200 Motels.
