I enjoyed the previous two Zero 7 offerings, they were nice. Chilled out. But I was never quite as hooked as some other reviewers obviously were, still preferring the seminal works of Air, Royksopp and the ilk. Listening to The Garden, as I have done constantly for the last week, takes me to a better place - it's beautiful, engaging, full of catchy hooks mingled with luscious soundscapes. It has a deliciously retro feel to it and reminds me of the music of my early childhood in the late 60s and early 70s - but at the same time seems to be right for its time. The whole album works on many levels - my personal highlights so far are `the pageant of the bizarre' and `throw it all away' Buy it! (But try to avoid annoying all your workmates, as I have done this week, by singing -'Cash it in and throw it all away, never needed any of it anyway...' repeatedly.) And to all those grumbly gripers that expected a repeat the previous albums, why? You still have them! This is a very positive progression for a great set of musicians.Read full review
The garden by Zero 7 is the latest superbly produced album. It is a true play it all cd with no bad tracks. My only critisism would be one track too much with Jose Gonzales on the vocals. Track 5 the stand out one with Sia's superb vocal talent. Buy it!!! Snowboarderal.
The third album (the garden) is the weakest yet from the zero 7. The first album (simple things)is by far the best followed by the second (when it falls) is very good. I bought the album on the strengh of the last two albums, you notice their music through home & garden programmes on Channel 4! Zero 7 are still one of the best UK chillout music acts. I would have to hear their fouth album (if they do one) before purchasing.
i was looking forward to hearing this album. I had read the reviews saying it was a return to from, briiliant etc. After being massivley dissapointed in the previous album which was not a patch on the first one, which surely must be one of the finest albums of recent times, i couldnt wait... Well what can i say, this album is so poor its untrue.. I cant believe the record company let them release it Its such a shame because the first album was a masterpeace, the next one had 2-3 good tracks, this one has no good tracks so if you like zero 7 like i used to, be prepared for a big letdown Dorsetmusic
