No matter what your preference in anime is or if you like or dislike this type of a production, Evangelion is too much of a classic to be ignored. I would recommend, at least a viewing, for anyone that got into anime after it came out since it will shine upon the origins of a lot of tropes that are flowing around today's industry. And i say to those that got into it after it came out as i doubt there are a lot of anime fans from before Evangelion that do not know about it. Despite my love for the outdoors i am also an avid screen viewer and after countless anime series that I've had the pleasure and, let's face it, displeasure of watching, Evangelion still remains as one of the few mind-benders out there that triggers my curiosity and thought process with every viewing without exception.

The box holding the DVDs has a crushed corner. Don't know if it was always that way or if that happened apon delivery. Just the show. No bonus features. Its in standard definition. With the classic ADV dub. This 2005 box set is good if you are looking to save shelf space.

The Platinum Complete Collection is separate from the simple Platinum Collection because it contains tons of awesome extras as well as the episodes, and contains more Director's Cut episodes. There's a featurette about the woman who plays Asuka in the dub...apparently, she owns hundreds of pieces of Asuka merchandise, and she gives you a tour of her Asuka room. The commentaries on the middle disks are my favorite because they feature Asuka's and Misato's voice actresses, and they both adore Evangelion and being a part of the project. The later ones are also great. (Some of the earlier commentaries featuring the crew and Shinji's voice actor focus more on technical aspects and other similar projects, rather than just Evangelion, and it seems to get a bit tangental.) And of course, best of all, there's Shinji's Rant. On Episode 26, at the credits, switch your audio to the last English voice track available; Shinji's voice actor - as Shinji - delivers a biting, hilarious commentary on the ending of the show that plays over the credits. If you like Evangelion, it's for you. You'll love it because it adds a whole new element to the show you already love. If you've never seen Evangelion before, it's for you. You'll love it: it's a great show and it's an anime classic.Read full review
Let me start off by saying that this show is hard to find because of the limited printing. Usually, one has to search far and wide for a legit copy (not a bootleg), and even then finding one in like new condition for under $140 is rare. Luckily I was able to get one for less and couldn't be happier. Sure it is very bare bones compared to the regular edition (non thinpack), but I am a big fan of the show, and the regular edition doesn't have too many extras, and the thinpack supposedly has a higher bit rate than the regular version. The Blu-ray edition that came out in Japan does look a lot nicer, but it has yet to be released in the U.S. with a sub or dub, so if you can, you might want to wait for that to be licensed here. If you're not willing to wait around 3-4 years, or however long that takes, and are a big fan of Eva, then go ahead and buy this. Just be aware of bootlegs (look at the "G" font in the title, for example), and make sure the seller provides plenty of pictures.Read full review

I bought the Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum: The Complete Collection a few weeks ago mainly because I am a huge fan of the series. This series has been released quite a few times already so, What makes this Platinum release so special? Well for starters it has 5.1 surround sound and remastered video. It also has 4 Director's cut episodes which reveal even more character development to the story. You have NEVER truly seen NGE until you have seen it in its Platinum form. If you are a fan of the series like me, totally worth it for your collection. If you're new to the series remember that it's not all action since it contains many psychological aspects in the story, in other words there will be a lot of talking and explaining, so think if you like this sort of anime before you buy it. Either way, you will NOT be dissapointed!!!Read full review
