With more successful progressive rock bands like Yes, King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer bringing the genre to prominence, Gentle Giant remained more a less-promoted oddity. While writing adventurous music more for the musicianship than fame and popularity, Gentle Giant gained a loyal core of fans, and enjoyed some level of success during their time together in the 1970s. This collection, covering five of their first six albums, packs a lot from these albums and offers a 'corrected' CD version of the instrumental track 'Acquiring The Taste' without the defective opening notes found on the CD issues of the album by the same name. A collection this good beckons for another collection from the band's other major works. If you're unfamiliar with Gentle Giant, this isn't a bad introduction to the band's early albums, and could easily be followed by more of their output from that era. If you're a completest, then you really should add this to your collection if you haven't already done so.Read full review
