In the experimental '70s, many bands abandoned the traditional structures of pop music in search of more intricate and elaborate styles to showcase their musicianship. Bands like Yes, King Crimson, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer found themselves to be popular without sacrificing their artistic experiments, but Gentle Giant never achieved the same acclaim, despite releasing 12 albums in 10 years. Still, decades after disbanding, Gentle Giant has found a new generation of fans. Originally broadcast on the BBC in the late 1970s on their "Sight And Sound" concert series, this DVD captures the Giant as they toured in support of 'The Missing Piece' album, live at the Golders Green Hippodrome in London. Relive their live magic as these music masters move about from instrument to instrument, creating a show that truly reflected on the complex progressive rock arrangements this band employed during their early years, and the more accessible sounds they adopted to bring in a new league of fans. This performance has often been traded as a bootleg video, but here it is looking good as new, and with the band performing some of their classics like 'Free Hand', 'Funny Ways' and 'Playing The Game' as well as new songs, like the spunky 'Two Weeks In Spain', the single 'I'm Turning Around' and the pensive 'Memories Of Old Days'. If that's not enough, this DVD also contains Gentle Giant's appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test show (Drury Lane Theater, London, November 26, 1974), three performance videos from their 'Interview' tour ('Interview', 'Give It Back', 'I Lost My Head'); three studio videos from their follow up album 'Giant For A Day' ('Words From The Wise', 'Thank You' and 'Giant For A Day'); some handheld audience footage of a show in Munster, Germany from 1974; and photos galore from guitarist Gary Green's personal collection. Whew! I gave this set a good rating only because the song selection is just slightly inferior (to my personal tastes, your mileage may vary) to the songs on the other DVD available, 'Giant On The Box'. If you're a big fan of Gentle Giant, or even Jethro Tull, Yes or the like, this is worth picking up. This DVD set also contains a CD of the Golders Green and Old Grey Whistle Test performances, so you get the best of both worlds! If you're already a fan of Gentle Giant, but perhaps you never had the chance to see them live, this will give you a glimpse of how versatile these players were in concert. And if you've already immersed yourself in Gentle Giant's music for the last three decades as I have, then you owe it to yourself to pick up this offering, if only to share the "memories of old days."Read full review
Awesome Sauce is right! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could see a Gentle Giant concert. Both dvd's come with a cd of the concert. Visual and sound are pretty good for the early 70's. An excellent buy to add to any collection !!! You won't be disappointed !!

What a great DVD. The essence of the band has been captured here. It brings back so many memories of great times, great music and great concerts. Their talents have been captured audio/visually spanning a miriad of their albums!
a must have dvd for gentle giant fans...some of the best video of the group...although the giant still doesn't show up for the 6 man drum solo... i wish they'd had a real concert video because they (GG) had really nice multi-media staging trhat added wonderful qualities to the concert...but i'll settle for this anyway !!! love-it
