It's no surprise Chantal Kreviazuk comes out with yet another one of her fabulous albums, but this time she dug way deeper, making it her best album so far. Chantal brings out her classical backgrounds at their best for the song Ghosts of You, and mini operas such as You Blame Yourself, Asylum, and Wendy House. The other songs don't fall from grace, like So Cold, a gospel-oriented piece. Pop and her signature falsetto (prominent on her previous album) are not to be forgotten. The living examples are the songs Mad About You, Wonderful, Waiting For The Sun, and the lead single All I Can Do. Every song on this album is superb and can easily appeal to popular and classical music listeners. Individual rating: Ghosts of You (5/5) Beautiful piece, with a heartbreaking orchestred melody in the intro and towards the bridge. One of the best lyrics on the album, and said by the artist herself, the continuation of Flying Home (Brenda's Song) from her previous album. All I Can Do (5/5) One of the standouts on the album. "All I can do is love you to pieces / Give you a shoulder to cry when you need it." Spoke in Tongues (3/5) I'm not sure what direction this song was meant to take. For me, the weakest one on the album. Mad About You (4/5) A clear example of Chantal's haunting vocal abilities. It has my favorite line in the whole album "You fill me with all your energy / Your poisons, antidotes and sympathies." So Cold (4/5) The gospel-oriented song with a melancholic verse about what humanity has become. The chorus/finale bestows the most powerful moment. Waiting For The Sun (4/5) A perfect cure for the blue vibe of the previous song. You Blame Yourself (5/5) Haunting from start to end. Chantal shares with us her soprano skills in the two most powerful moments of the song. Grow Up So Fast (4/5) "I don't want to be the one that has to be afraid / I don't want to be the one you feel sorry for." Wonderful (4/5) A song about feeling "alone in this life," and being afraid to call the one you need. It bring a less sad feeling to the album. Asylum (5/5) The most precious words are not enough to describe the brilliance contained in this piece inspired by the war. Accompanied by on of the most soul touching piano melodies and string arrangement in all the song, it stands out as the strongest on the album. Wendy House (5/5) Just like a mini opera, divided in 3 movements, each more powerful than the last one. The best way to end a wonderful album.Read full review
