This is apparently a CD of 1950's recordings by Kate Smith. There are three recordings I am particularly fond of: Stars Fell on Alabama, Oklahoma!, and Beautiful Ohio. The last tune is the reason I bought the CD. Beautiful Ohio was one of my grandfather's favorite American songs. He had a 1918 recording by Columbia on 78rpm that I fondly remember. Kate Smith is my all-time favorite female recording artist. Although I am more interested in her 1930's and 1940's recordings, these are well done and beautifully orchestrated. Most Pickwick recordings of Kate are not as musically stunning as her Columbia and RCA Victor recordings, but they are just as historically significant. Kate was definately apart of Depression, World War II and Post-war American culture!
While Kate Smith is gone, her vocal talent, presentation & personality remain irreplaceable. This selection of 10 songs all relate to past favorites from various states in our nation, begun by her signature song, "God Bless America." This CD was enhanced and published in 1997; there are no audience responses included.
We enjoy listening.
