Well, way back in my high school days, the inside music-heads of Detroit all seemed to have this album in their collection. It was one of those "crossover" musical styles that satisfied the blues, rock and soul genres. You know what I'm referring to, like when you went over to that one guy's upstairs flat and he was drinking Heineken instead of Miller High Life and listening to Jethro Tull instead of Black Sabbath. For those insiders, "Greetings From L.A." was a staple. Tim Buckley's stretching vocals on this album seemed to suggest that he previously spent months listening to Al Green and Marvin Gaye before venturing into the studio to record what is probably his best work ever. So, it doesn't matter if you're the 50-something surburban white guy or the hipster contemporary college kid - if you have this one spinning on your communist RED China made CD player, someone visiting at your place will certainly say, "Dude, who is this guy?"Read full review
I guess I must have spent way too much time in L.A. This album reminds me quite graphically of what I was while living in Los Angeles in the mid to late 60's. And why I left for the Utopia of Marin County. God, this music ROCKS!! Check out MOVE WITH ME and GET ON TOP. Makes my feets go a-tappin'!! Clear lyrics that truly tell the real deal, Tim's wild vocals, poppin' piano, great guitar and sax, too. I just LOVE IT!!! Michael~
