There are household names on this 2-disc compilation, such as The Angles, The Shangri-Las, Connie Francis, Lesley Gore, and others to include one Brit, Dusty Springfield and, of course, some big hits, and while that music summons up wonderful memories of my misspent youth, I was also enthralled with group/singers with whom I was unfamiliar—and there are many on both discs. Highlights on disc I are Diane Ray's "Please Don't Talk to the Lifeguard," Sadina's "It Comes and Goes," The Royalettes' "It's Gonna Take a Miracle" (#41), The Secrets' "The Boy Next Door," Ginny Arnell's "I Wish I Knew What Dress to Wear," and Kenni Woods' "Can't He Take a Hint." Diane Renay's brash "Watch Out, Sally!" is an eyeopener and a far cry from her hit "Navy Blue" (#6). All good stuff! Ditto disc II. I enjoyed Sadina's "I Want That Boy," Kenni Woods' "Back With My Baby," Beverly Washburn's "Everybody Loves Saturday Night," and The Honeybees' "One Wonderful Night." "Nightmare" by the Whyte Boots takes teen tragedy to another level! The drummer on The Pixies Three's "Cold, Cold Winter" is on steroids, reefer or both! The Paris Sisters' languid, breathy version of Bobby Daren's "Dream Lover" is perfect. A 60s fanatic will probably already own collections by the "names" on Growin' Up Too Fast. But this set is delightful without them. No text. First-rate booklet detailing all 50 songs.Read full review

I defy you to frown while playing these tracks. Uplifting and fun honest songs. Loads of great tunes but it would be nice to see more of the black artists of the era on the album.
