i was just 12 years old when i first heard of hawkwind.the sonic attack album was the first time i heard the band and it absolutely blew me away.i grew up in brixton, south london on hardcore punk, heavy rock and new wave but was also surrounded by reggae, ska, country and western and a lot of traditional irish music as i was from a massive irish family.i was very particular about what i listened to back then as image counted for a lot but upon hearing sonic attack it just opened my mind, and my entire world,up to anything that had real spirit and originality.this music seemed to be a mixture of everything i wanted to hear with overtones of political awareness that has stuck with me to this very day, some 27 years later.this album has had such a profound influence on my entire life that i am still blown away on what it actually did to me.every track is so cleverly put together.track 2,rocky paths is such a raunchy number.a real kickin space rock classic while the coded languages is a true statement to the fact that big brother really has been watchin us for all this time.its brilliantly thought out and amazingly executed within the realms of the studio with its mind twisting music and subliminal messages encoded within the lyrics.it took me some 18 months to work out what was actually going on in the tune itself...its a very rare piece nowadays on cd.expect to pay about £40 for it if you can actually track one down but honestly, its worth every penny.any true hawkwind fan will tell you that.well my money has now run out in this internet cafe im sitting in so dont just read the rewiew.....go get yourself a copy of the amazing hawkwind....sonic attackRead full review
having previously owned all my hawkwind collection on vinal and left it with a previous girlfriend, when i decided to start collecting it again on cd..i was in for a shock..as hawkwind fan's will realise the band's distribution was as turbulent as the band..i had purchased some of their cd's along the way but one that was one of my favourites was 'sonic attack' and looking on eBay i realised it was going to cost £40..i had payed £65 for a 'doors' box set..but that was a snazzy box set with numerous extras ..so cut to the chase..i forked out for sonic attack and it arrived in its jiffy bag and i loaded the cd and waited wondering if something i grew up with would just sound dated and crass..but no enjoyed every bit..rocky paths, streets of fear, living on a knife edge and angels of death ect ect great production...took me back too my heady daze and worth every penny..next stop is 'choose your masques' another cd people scrap over on eBay ! we must be mad !Read full review
This original CD release from 1996 has good sound and includes the additional single track Trans-Dimensional Man. If only mediocre in content compared to earlier Hawkwind releases it has now been re-issued with several extra tracks. Like much of Hawkwinds output from the early 80ies this is a good if not essential release.
Had originally on Vinyl and recently re-listening to Hawkwind - and to be honest don't get on with 'downloads' - I'm selfish, materialistic and old fashioned - I like to have what I own held in my sweaty little paws - glad to have this album again and it didn't sound 'old fogey' to me at all - favourite tracks - Angels Of Death, Rocky Paths - cheers Kev
