This is the first post-Sandy Denny Fairport Convention recording, and it is a winner. Instrumentally, the group never sounded better, and the songwriting team of Richard Thompson and Dave Swarbrick gave us the sublime "Sloth" and (finally)"Poor Will And The Jolly Hangman". It is the restoration of "Poor Will" to its proper place that elevates the CD release above the original LP version, where Thompson's last-minute decision to remove the track weakened the overall effort. The bonus addition of two different versions of "Now Be Thankful", and the original version of "The Bonny Bunch Of Roses" brings this to a 5-star status in my 'umble opinion. Although "Full House" would be the only studio release with this particular line-up,(Thompson, Swarbrick, Nicol, Pegg, Mattacks) it sets the tone for the best of their future recordings and the many reunions of the 80's, 90's and 00's. This ranks with "Unhalfbricking" and "What We Did On Our Holidays" as one of my personal favorites.Read full review
