I have this album in many forms. Been lucky enough to have found it upon original release. (a song on a Warner Bros sampler. "Indian Summer", a bonus track on this cd) This, Esoteric Recordings 2015 cd is by far the best version I've heard! This was the third Audience album. Their best. Wasn't classified/considered a Prog album when released, but has gained a reputation as one of the first wave of prog LPs. The instrumentation consists of: Sax/flute, Electric Classical guitar, bass and drums. (All of this is from the extremely well written, informative essay included in the booklet!) The remastering is perfect. It emphasizes the album's dynamics without softening them like so many remasters of original master tapes. The vocals jump out/playful when needed, Sax wails/floats as played, flute soft and then sharp, bass and drums perfectly accented as played, subtle and roaring. A multitude of different instrumental voicing. The vocalist, Howard Werth, is different, original and perfectly suited to the wonderfully eclectic song selection. This album was beautifully recorded. This is a way cool Musical experience. A rare, beautifully integrated song sequencing that flows from one song type to another. The title song, "The House On The Hill", can send chills down your spine. (I've been singing "Indian Summer" since I heard it. It was on the original US LP version, but has been included on most of the UK cd versions as a bonus song). A Great Album!! A way cool cover too!!!Read full review
