I like this album although few tracks I remember. It is hard to define its style. It is mixture of hard-rock, funk and R&B (despite of fact that Gillan wanted this album to be jazz-fusion). For me it is fun to watch how music of Deep Purple and Rainbow evolved without Gillan in contrast to this album. Gillan wanted it to be rock-fusion and this CD features little bit of everything. Opening "Deep Purplish" feeling slowly evolves into new, modern sound. First track is of funky style. Following three tracks are hard to tell from Deep Purple ones. There is no memorable piece among them although I like to listen to them. Second part of this album is slow. Moody "Down the Road", restful remake of "Child in Time" and similarly tempered closing track. For those, who like Deep Purple is this a good pick. It has nothing breathtaking to offer, but for me it is good listening. Album goes from funk, through hard-rock to chill out with still more and more modern sound. I personally bought this album because of "Child in Time" remake, but I don't regret. However it is not full of hits, I like it and it is worth of money.Read full review
