I was reminded of this album when watching the film Juno. Thanks Juno! I bought a single from this album (sonic youth/redd kross) when it was released in 1994. A real blast from the past for anyone in their 30s or 40s who was into American West Coast Rock scene (I never did like the "G" word). I played a couple of tracks for my Carpenters lovin' mother, she hated it. I grew up listening to my Mum's choice of music, so kinda liked the Carpenters; this album takes their great song-writing & makes the songs more real/relevant to teens of the 80s/90s. Highlights: Sonic Youth, Dishwalla, Redd Kross, Cracker & Babes In Toyland. All the tracks are pretty good though. Quite a rare album. If you see the CD selling for £10 ($20) or less SNAP IT UP!
I am a big Carpenters fan and was delighted to hear of this tribute cd recorded by today's up and coming artists. Artist's featured are Sheryl Crow performing Solitaire, the Cranberries Performing Close to You. Other Songs include, For All We Know, Hurting Each Other, Yesterday Once More and several other Carpenter trademark hits. I enjoyed being able to purchase this cd for under ten dollars used. This enabled me to hear it first and to decide if it may be something I may purchase at a later date new. What I disliked about this cd were a few of the songs were different arrangements but. all in all this was a good choice.
I'm a big Carpenters fan. I bought disc just for the Matthew Sweet cover of "Let me be the one". It's the best cover on the disc. Some song versions were way off base as far as the originals go. Dishwalla's " It's gonna take some time" is brought up to date in an amazing translation. A few misses on the disc but well worth it. Richard Carpenter is a guest musician on Matthew Sweets cover.
Great hard to find item at a great price.

When you put The Carpenters and Sonic Youth together, there's no mistake. Something good will have to come out of it. And certainly the best track from this Carpenters tribute is 'Superstar'. The arrangements and Thurston Moore's vocal are brilliant. That album is worth it due to that song, and lovely Cranberries' Close to You and Bettie Serveert's For All We Know are like bonus tracks to it...
