Reissue. Released in 2006, Imaginary Diseases compiles for the first time all live recordings from a very rare and undocumented Zappa band line-up. In 1972, after taking a 20-piece 'electric orchestra' on the road for 8 dates as The Grand Wazoo, FZ reduced the personnel to 10 pieces and toured this new band for roughly 2 months. Billed as The Mothers Of Invention but eventually becoming known as the 'Petit Wazoo,' audio from this period was never released during Frank's lifetime.

    Imaginary Diseases Real Music

    This album is comprised of live tracks from various locations in the year 1972.The band members are:Dave Parlato(bass),Jim Gordon(drums),Tony Duran(slide guitar),Bruce Fowler & Glenn Ferris(trombone),Earl Dumler(woodwinds),Malcolm Mcnabb(trumpet), Gary Barone(trumpet/flugelhorn),Tom Malone(tuba/saxes/trumpet/ piccolo trumpet).First 2 tracks very short,opening track has an avant gard freeform feel to it.Other 5 tracks are rather long, T3 is a blues tune,T4 is heavy on the horns both jazzy and 20th century orchestral with some nice guitar chording and a drum solo leading into a great ending,T5 opens with a late 60's Frisco sound guitar solo over a nice drone sound, builds over a 5 minute span and transcends gradually into Frank offering options for the ending to the audience ...
