This is simple, old fashioned folk music, the major music being banjo, the voice plain, clear, and simple. While not my favorite style or genre, within the limits and bounds of old fashioned folk, this is done almost perfectly, and indeed, done well enough that "although they didn't like it" several rappers sat and listened to it, nodding along as he sang.
