The Alchemy Index is unlike anything Thrice has ever played before! Many relate the band Thrice to their early albums such as Identity Crisis that contains a punk rock sound to it, The Illusion of Safety and Artist In The Ambulance that comprises a harder metal rock sound, and Vheissu that through a curveball at Thrice fans with an experimental alternative rock sound. The Alchemy Index is only the next step in Thrice's explorative quest. The album expresses connotative themes regarding the disk. For instance, the Fire disc is more harder and upbeat than the Water disc, which is more fluid and relaxed. The two discs in the set compliment each other with their lyrics as well as their artistic aesthetics.
If you see this, make sure you get it, no matter what it takes! This promo is EXTREMELY hard to find! I know. I spent weeks looking for it on the web and couldn't find a single thing! "The Alchemy Index: Vols. I & II - Fire & Water" is an amazing album. Volume I (Fire) is very heavy music wise, and Dustin Kensrue absolutely shreds the vocals. Volume II (Water) is very soft music wise, and Dustin Kensrue sings with a soothing voice in these very emotional and sad songs. Personally, I prefer Volume II (Water), because the lyrics and music are so beautiful and heartbreaking. However, Volume I (Fire) is really good as well, especially for those of you who like heavy rock. So, not only do you get the full album on this Advance Promo press, but you get both the Fire and Water CD's on one CD! Fans of Thrice should definitely pick up a copy of this EXTREMELY RARE advance promo, if they ever get a chance.Read full review
Awesome Eps. Fire brings all the energy that has marked Thrice's albuns till here, with a much more melodic and fulfilling approach, though. Water, in one word, is NEW! Great poetic lyrics and awesome melodies that will stick to your head, literally drowning (haha, got that?!) in electronic beats and experimental sounds. For a first attempt in this field, the guys really made a flawless job. Some old fans may be quite disapointed, 'cause really, it's a whole new thing, but there's no doubt: it's a GOOD thing. Worth having!
Thrice's best effort thus far. This record builds on some of the layer sand melodies of previous albums, but with more mature themes. Intelligent lyrics and amazing harmony and rhythm on this record. Great use of unique instruments and vintage equipment. The production is stellar and has a nice rough edge to it.
Love this Albums. Thrice has shown some amazing growth over the years and this has made me love them even more!
