In the garden of eden and its drum solo is really the only reason I decided to pick this up. It was a minor hit but iconic. We also played this in the band I was a part of back in 1976. Yeah a long time ago but a fun piece to do live.

I Bought this Iron Butterfly because it has a special meaning to me. I had been playing drums' since i was six years old,and It was a chalenge for me to practice the drum solo by Bushy!.Everyone has their own Idea about this! So I will give You my Idea! If I could get this solo rite! and I mean every Guage cymbal to sound like the one that Bushy used, I am thankfull to God that I was Born ambidextriouse!I was sixteen when this album came out,and it took me over six months' to be able to accomplish the solo. I'm a perfectionist And almost is not in my vocabulary! at 58 I still warm up to play a gig by playing the solo before going to the show to play for a crowd of people who have never even heard of the band (much less the solo!) If You wan't to be a percussionist I suggest You buy this cd,and lock yourself in the studio! put headphones' on and listen, listen, listen! then try, try, try! until you have it rite. then feel proud of yourself! neal pert, did the same thing, also more famouse percussionist that I had best not mention also perfected their own methods' by doing the same! buy it! learn it! Play it! then be proud to stand up after a show, and remember!. it will make all songs' easier to play!. this is a great cd, It is a good historical peice. Also a tool for percussionist!. I bought this item because it was recommended to me by a friend. The best part of this special song in particular is the lyrics. It is funny that the song was written in sober tones but when it came time to announce it the guy was drunk on a gallon of wine!! The words of this song are special because it is a love song but twisted into a jumble of confusion and somberness in the fact that the whole purpose of the lyrics of it are in a manner of drawling and thus makes it even more fun to listen to for the fact that it takes the romance of the traditional style of song writing to a whole new level by reving up the sincerity of the whole meaning by the very thing that started it to begin with, the drunken nature of the telling of the title being recorded. Had it been written in the style of In The Garden Of Eden as was originally thought up the very meaning of the special verseing would be lost forever. In this respect the romantic notions of the song are not lost but found. The level of depth of the song is deeper and the sound of the music is more resolute. Truely they had no idea the impact the changing of the title or lyrics would have on such generations of the future. The woman who referred me to this song is only thirty-two years old and has been touched by the way the song was changed. The major part of what's to dislike about the song is that it was cut short, that there were allowed removals of time and music from which there have been no re-additions since if they even still exist. Should there ever be a way to re-add the lost or removed music the song would only get better!! The song in many respects differs yet defeats its' competition. The way the lyrics are composed and the music that accompanies them create such a drawing effect that it is hypnotic and yet also unforgettable. The song can easily get stuck in your head for hours at a time and is hard to think of things to remove or replace it with. Plus the beat is something any generation can dance to and be able to hear the words and the music at the same time making it a song that could easily make the club scene more appealing. But more than that, it will live on as a clasic for the future generations to remember as a very importany part of music history.Read full review
Although I was barely a teenager when this album was recorded in the late 60's, when I became "of age" this was played countless times on my Pioneer PL 10 turntable through Lafayette Criterion 50a speakers at a volume so deafening loud that my mother, in her own words, wanted to fly it out the window like a frisbee! IB recorded this album in May of 1968 just a mere 7 miles from where I live and grew up at the time. Get a bit of nostalgia on YouTube when they were at the famous but now long gone Ultrasonic Studios in Hempstead, Long Island, NY making rock heavy metal history.
