This is a great solo effort from one of the grandfathers of rock bass. Each track is unique and artistically creative. I find myself playing them in my head unconsciously throughout the day. I think this is kind of a rare version of the album (CD) since it has bonus versions of the tracks (original cuts etc.) but I would have equally enjoyed the original release content. You can find some low quality recordings of the first two tracks on youtube which I think got some airplay in their day but the balance of the album meets and exceeds every expectation gained by those tracks.
One of the very best first solo albums by a musician upon leaving a prominent band. Songwriting, singing and especially bass-playing show Jack in top form. And if you were in a garage band in the early Seventies, you probably covered "Theme From An Imaginary Western." LOL Why this album never got the attention it deserves, we'll never know. Especially puzzling because Jack was coming off a run with one of the top rock bands of the era and the album was on a major label. Can only postulate that people were expecting more "Creamish" material and thus paid the album little mind after hearing a track or two. Don't make the same mistake!

If you're a fan of Cream then you already know the writing team of Jack Bruce and Pete Brown. This album, Bruce's first solo album, was also mainly written by Bruce and Brown and picks up where their work with Cream left off. Without Eric Clapton on guitar Bruce moves away from blues rock and back to his jazz, r'n'b and folk roots, at times reminding one of his work with the Graham Bond Organization. The guitar playing on the album is sparse and often accoustic, leaving plenty of space for Bruce's bass and other subtle rhythm section textures.
My favorite work of Jack's! Remaster is excellent!
