Blow By Blow has always been my favorite Jeff Beck album. It stands alone in style and flavor for Jeff. Excellent production and stellar (if not terribly famous) musicians. I have several MFSL Gold Disc cds in my collection but had missed out on Blow By Blow when it was produced. It lives up to MFSL's quality. Sonically stunning, very defined soundstage and excellent definition. Thumbs up!

This album has always been my favorite Jeff Beck album and also one of my favorite instrumental records. I had no clue as to whether the MFSL version was really that much better, especially considering that it's among the pricier MFSL CDs on the used market. One listen put all that to rest. The MFSL version adds great clarity to Beck's guitar, which gains in resonance and emotional depth. His tone is simply tremendous. This is a reminder of why Beck belongs in the pantheon of all-time guitarists, and not in the realm of forgotten greats. Also worth a listen is the MFSL version of "Wired," which was the follow-up. The MFSL version made me re-assess "Wired," which I had initially dismissed as a failure. Again, what really pops out is Beck's guitar work, which rocks much harder amidst considerable feedback. It's really a small gem that had the misfortune of following-up "Blow by Blow," one of the great jazz-rock/guitar workouts of the ages. If you're either a Beck fan or just a fan of sublime guitar playing, pick up both. You won't regret the expense.Read full review
At best its difficult to write a un-biased review of any Jeff Beck work. Although not nearly as well known as his contemporaries his playing is on par with anything recorded by Clapton, Hendrix or Jimmy Page. Blow By Blow was produced by Beatles producer George Martin and ventures through several genres of music without anything sounding out of place. There is funk here, Jazz, soft ballads and Rock. And while modern guitar instrumental music tends to all sound alike this particular CD does not. Each song stand on its own merit and the disc flows seemlessly from start to finish. The recording is flawless as is the performance and in my opinion makes a great accessible starting point for anyone wanting to get their feet wet with Beck's music, and innovative guitar playing. In fact, it will only make you thirsty for hearing more of his work which will be a treat as Jeff Beck literally reinvents the guitar every time he makes a record.Read full review
