To anyone wanting to put as much distance between themselves and pervasive, formulaic, chewing-gum-for-the-ears pop-can-crud; I guarantee your total satisfaction will be found in this jewel case. I saw Jeff at the Sunrise theater with the "There & Back" lineup in 1980. I recall that concert as the pinnacle of all the live performances I've attended, before or since. On the basis of originality, taste and virtuosity of musicianship, I'd given up on ever hearing anything equal that level of excellence again. I certainly never thought that 36 years later, Jeff would still be capable of delivering a performance with the same energy. This recording proves the decades haven't fogged my memory. If it were possible for the DVD's laser to burn through plastic, one track would have been obliterated from sear of repeated exposure. The awe inspiring performance of "My Blanket" with Imogene Heap stands so far above the mind numbingly predictable standard we are usually subjected to, that it alone is worth the price of admission. Fortunately, the other musicians wrapped up this present to posterity in a beautiful package. Peel this open. Pop it in the BluRay. Never remove it from the tray. My copy has resided there since I took it out of the mail box. I never know when I might next need to sooth my ears and a dose of this performance does the trick...every time.Read full review

I've been a JB fan since the early 70s but due to family, career... then divorce, I stopped paying attention somewhere in the 90s. To be honest, when I first saw the youtube video of JB at the Crossroads 2007, I stupidly thought he was using some young female bassist as a way to attract new listeners but finally took a serious listen and was completely blown away by not just JB but each of the other 3 musicians. Since then I've collected everything I could find of this particular lineup. I bought the JB Live at Ronnie Scott's DVD then bought the Blu-ray disc a couple weeks later after I upgraded to a 75" TV. The quality is noticeably better on Blu-ray and you get 6 extra songs that aren't available on the DVD. This concert disc also motivated me to hook up my surround system and subwoofer. This has become my most-watched disc during the pandemic. My wife who had never heard of JB now has practically every song memorized just from me playing them so much. I've always liked the JB, Bozzio & Hymas lineup but I think this has become my favorite JB lineup of all time. Jason, Vinnie and Tal were amazing. I bought the Crossroads 2019 disc just to watch JB's performance but found it extremely boring and never even got through the first song. Do yourself a favor and listen to this through a good pair of headphones or a good audio system.Read full review

What can be said about Jeff Beck, his speed, his style, his longevity. He's is the longest continual recording Epic Recording artist in their history! I bought a DVD of this session and was so impressed I gave it to my best friend; I bought another copy but didn't open it; I'll make an Xmas gift of it. When I found out that the Blu-Ray version had his one-off performance of his Rock-A-Billy influences CD he'd made several years ago, ... I had to have that disk. I was amazed that he was not Jeff Beck the progressive Rock/Jazz artist; he was a 13 year old guitar player wanna-be and playing rather reserved and true to the original recordings; the Rock-A-Billy version of "Train Kept'a'Rollin'" I'd consider my favorite of the set. The audio on the Blu-Ray is not to be believed; his performances are the best I've seen, and I have a couple of Japanese sessions. This is the first recording of his, and his first tour where he has not spent most of his set promoting his recent album release. This set goes from soup (Beckola) to nuts (Beck Who!) and plenty from Wired, There&Back. The female guest singers are amazing. Even my wife said, I thought that was a black woman singing; she was surprised to see a slight young Brit singing "People Get Ready". And "Blanket" and "Rollin'&Tumblin'" are simply terrific. This is as good as it gets without seeing him live, and you have to remember, he was playing with the Yardbirds in '66! So there's no guarantee when/if you'll see him in the states again! I put this disk right up there with the live performance when I saw him promoting his Guitar Shop recording. Get the Blu-Ray; buy a Blu-Ray (as I did) just to hear the best audio, video, and Rock-A-Billy. Oh yea; Clapton played a couple of old old blues cuts; that's how great the Prog Jazz set is; you're as mesmarized as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were while sitting in the audience! Clapton was ... well Clapton; but Jeff Beck overshadowed even his ultimate band!Read full review
First of all I must say, as a guitarist, I was never blown away by Beck until now. What inspired me to pick this up was his performace at Clapton's Crossroads Concert (#2 in Chicago) shown on PBS, his touch, tone, style, not to mention (well I will though) his ultra-cool female bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld (sp?) who's musical ability combined with her infectuous smile and laughter reeled me in on this latest grouping of musicians out there with Jeff. Vinnie C. (whom I first discovered when we was playing and recording with Sting) is also a thrill to watch. Great show here in a really intimate setting at Ronnie Scott's. All I can say is "wish I could've been there". A thrill to watch and hear!!!! A+++++ / A must for any true fan of music! - Billy Pope / Spring, TX
i hate to critize a true guitar god,but...this is not his best showing. he admits in the extras interview he is not used to playing in small venues, and his nervousness about it shows. on pieces where he used to let notes ring,it seems like he chokes them. he doesn't really start to relax 'til about midway through the main show. don't get me wrong...his tone and technique are as sharp as ever, and for die-hards,its worth the purchase. on the plus side... a guest appearance by old pal eric clapton really livens him up, and the two of them work well off each other. also, in the extra features, is a short rockabilly set where he's more relaxed and plays like his old self.
