I love the original Jeff Wayne version of "War of the Worlds" and must have gone through 3 new copies since 1978 having worn the previous ones out. I was convinced nothing could come anywhere close to the original, however having heard a friends copy of the Remix album, I now play this on a regular basis and have to say it is also Fantastic. I especially like the extended versions on disc 2 and would certainly say the album puts a different "spin" on the original release. Would recommend this to any War of the Worlds fan or indeed to anyone who appreciates fabulous music and mixes.
I had the original Ulladubulla - which although should've, could've been a single disc, was pretty good. Apart from Papa Ootzies awful - martains chatting - mix which sorta worked ok on the live event. But this cd has most of the same tracks from the first issue, omits my favourtie (apollo 440) and has these really awful tracks by someone called zube - doing an R&B Uh huh Uh huh kinda thing over the music. Most of the remixes keep in the spirit of things WOTW, but these zube tracks seem a blatant attempt to attract new listeners, but they are so bad I can't believe they are on here. BUT, if you did'nt get the original release or can't afford it second hand (prices went mad) get this, all said - it does have some great remixes on it. Better still get the 7 disc set - brilliant extra and outakes ie - the full (muscical) script read by Burton.Read full review
over 20 years old WOTW it still sounds as fresh as it was only released the other day. Its one of them musical that holds its age very well, with the Ulladubulla 2 mix album we are given both old mixs (taken from the first Ulladubulla which now is hard one to find) plus a couple of new mixs. You may find you skip the rap remix while its a good effort it just dont have that something factor for me.
better than the original? i do not know but this remix takes this music to a new level. fantastic. play it loud. join in sing your heart out a bargain to make you feel GREAT. try to listen to the radio broadcast and or see the original film not the re-make you'll see just how fantastic this music is. a true classic masterpiece
