The title of this album pretty much sums it up-SURREALISTIC PILLOW. The title was ... The title of this album pretty much sums it up-SURREALISTIC PILLOW. The title was rumored to have been created by Jerry Garcia during a conversation with his friends from JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. SURREALISTIC PILLOW embodies the spirit of the music scene in San Fran in 67 perfectly. From the drugs(acid was a fave at the time), to the free love, to the musical revolution-SURREALISTIC PILLOW captures it all perfectly. JEFFERSON AIRPLANE recorded the spirit of 67 perfectly for the world to enjoy indefinately. This is one of my favorite AIRPLANE albums! With Grace just joining the band-she sounds like she has been with them the whole time. Her voice is hypnotizing and magical. Grace's presence is huge on this album. For a newcomer to the band, she really made her presence known to all. I also love the Garcia influence on some of the songs. It takes you back to an era where musicians were free to experiment and really be themselves and bands were more friends than competitors. This album really shows the quest for the perfect sound that the San Francisco musicians shared with one another in 67. Bands collaborated together on albums and also on stage. It was a friendly quest to make great music. The did what sounded best without egos being hurt or worrying about being paid. Everything was done for the love of music. The set list of this album is fantastic! It includes (of course) SOMBODY TO LOVE and WHITE RABBIT which have become staples of both the AIRPLANE and the 60's. Also on this album are PLASTIC FANTASTIC LOVER and TODAY which Jerry Garcia is said to have played on. If you like JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, GRACE SLICK, or just the 60's in general this album is a must have for you. BUY IT-BUY IT-BUY IT!!!!!
