For listeners who want crushingly heavy music that doesn't rely on screaming to convey emotion. This is downtuned metal, at a glacial tempo, infused with simple melodic vocals, making for a unique and beautifully disturbing experience. Think Hum crossed with Catherine Wheel, then crossed again with Sigur Ros, only metal. This has to be one of the most devestatingly ponderous releases I've ever heard. Along with See You Next Tuesday's "Parasite," this is one of the most crucial metal releases so far this year.
Despite being a highly-rated album, I was pretty disappointed in this, namely because it seems to cover very little new ground. It has the driving guitars, yes, buts seems to add little to what My Bloody Valentine already has covered, and the bland, Pedro the Lion vocals sort of brought the whole affair down for me. However, if you like either of the aforementioned bands and don't mind another offering that doesn't really push the oeuvre forward, then this album is very far from being an absolute clunker.
What a great record! Jesu never lets u down! Very heavy and serene at the same time. hands down awesome!
