Love the cd, it's a great way to get introduced to hendrix. Hendrix had a very bassy sound, and i love his funk blues, r&b rhythm style. I bought it just to hear a studio version of sunshine of your love, a song written by cream dedicated to hendrix that he often played live. i love the studio version here. the sound quality here seems to be top notch, i have only heard it on $300 cambridge soundworks clock radio with 6 inch subwoofer. i have not heard it on my $5,000 stereo with paradigm studio 60 speakers yet. The title track is great, all the other new songs are great also, yet a little different from each other. I got the target store bonus cd with 2 bonus tracks, i love them both, i can't believe that they released some versions without the 2 bonus tracks, i encourage you to seek out the target version, even if it is a little more expensive. There is a 5 to 10 page booklet that explains the whole recording and remastering story, i have read it once and plan to do again at least 2 more times. cover photo is by linda mccartney i believe, paul mccartneys wife with art work added. Some songs here were earlier released on various obscure hendrix re issues, only a dedicated hendrix collector will have heard most of these songs, and not all , i believe. As i said a great way to start a comprehensive hendrix collection beyond the 4 or 5 original albums, as is the case with me. some songs here are off the original albums, but these are new recordings from jimis last recording session with the original hendrix experience group in 1969 with mitchell redding, before band of gypsies with cox and mitchell, i believe. some songs are longer than 5 minutes, 7 minutes sometimes, i believe. a great way to listen to some new hendrix. 4 and 1 half stars out of 5 because some of these songs are repeats of earlier released album songs, but that's not jimis fault. these were probably never intended to be released as an album. Supposedly, greg lake said that jimi was scheduled to have a session with emerson lake and palmer 2 weeks after hendrix died, that would have been a killer group if it ever formed, and i believe it would have. read about it on the internet 3 months ago. Great hendrix album, i'm showing it to my friend who has a $8,000 rotel 5.1 stereo who is a hendrix fanatic. this definitely makes me want to buy more hendrix material. now i am a fan. d.s. michiganRead full review
This cd, done by Hendrix over 40 years ago, is one that should have been released a long time ago, but it is still an excellent one, I must say. The two songs that stand out to me the most are "Valleys Of Neptune" and "Bleeding Heart", even though the other songs are very good also. This is a must have to add to your Hendrix cd collection. Also, if you want even a better version of this cd, then get the Target exclusive version, with two bonus tracks on it. The bonus tracks on the Target version, have never been released otherwise and will probably become really collectible in the near future.
A well recorded album, a few tracks are completely alternate takes from the ones you may be used to and are it is obvious why they were not used on the albums during their day, the alternate takes do make this album worth purchasing for any Hendrix fan and if you are going to buy it might as well get the Target exclusive with 2 extra tracks, the Target cd only comes in a digipak soft case and has blue writing around the disc where the regular disc has none colored or silver writing on the disc's edge instead, otherwise they look the same. Wal-mart sold an exclusive hard case Valleys of the Neptune but with only 12 tracks instead of 14.
some very good songs should have been released years ago
