What an amazing album! Sometimes, and not often enough today, you discover a band whose synergistic chemistry together outweighs the sum of the individual members' talents. The great thing about this type of band is that their standard studio recordings seem to morph into much more stylized unique pieces of music when performed live. Adversely, too many bands sound good on CD, but suck when you hear them live. Indigenous clearly falls into the former of these two categories, as this live recording from 1998 demonstrates the amazingly precise guitar work that makes a great blues song (or album). I own the other studio recorded albums by Indigenous, which get their own share of "air time" in my house, but they are now taking a back seat to this album recorded Live at Pachyderm Studio 1998. In spite of this album having been recorded a decade ago, the soulful guitar stylings of Mato Nanji remain as fresh and clean a sound as some of my favorites from even earlier. Speaking of Mato, if you've never heard this man play guitar, you will be amazed. His voice and guitar playing are VERY reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn, and is often mistaken for Stevie by some of my less knowledgable friends... I'm doing my best to educate them and keep them afloat with good tunes in this sea of awful music being produced today. That job gets easier when there are bands like Indigenous and albums like Live at Pachyderm Studio 1998. If you like the blues, even a little, give this album a shot... you won't be disappointed.Read full review
I own every single thing these guys have released. Why? Because if you buy one of their CD's (I do think that Chasing the Sun is the most accessable to the average person, but any of them will do!) you will want them all. There is nobody out there better in the blues/rock genre right now. I don't care who they are. Favorite tracks on this cd: Holdin Out, Blues This Morning and without doubt RED HOUSE! (This is off their Blues This Morning E.P. which is a bit pricey, but well worth it for Red House and the cover of Dylan's Million Miles!)
Yes this one rocks hard don't even get it unless you are going to play it LOUD! This is the closet thing to being at an Indigenous show. This cd includes all four original members of the band of brothers Mato and Pte, sister Wanbdi and cousin Horse. This is an awesome cd from the beginning with a smoking rendition of "Holdin' out" the band takes you through highs and lows and ends with a 12 minute version of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House"! This is not to be missed. This cd will blow your doors off.
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BAND EVERYTHING. WHEN I MADE THIS PURCHASE I WAS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AT "THE SANTA CRUZ BLUES FESTIVAL" WHICH THEY WERE A HEADLINER AT AND I GAVE MY COPY I HAD WITH ME TO FRIEND I HAD MADE AT THE FESTIVAL WHO ALSO LOVES INDIGENOUS. IF YOU LOVE JIMI HENDRIX,STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN,KENNEY WAYNE SHEPHERD AND YOU DON'T HAVE ANY ENDIGENOUS IN YOUR COLLECTION,WELL YOUR COLLECTION HAS A VOID IN IT AND YOU NEED TO STEP UP TO THE TRUTH ABOUT TODAYS BLUES AND THE ONLY ANSWER TO THAT IS INDIGENOUS~
I was able to see this band live in Lubbock, TX recently and they really rock the blues guitar. They play well, but the best song is RED HOUSE, originally recorded by the late Jimi Hendrix, and Indigenous really does it justice. I bought the album just for that song, but the rest of the CD is great too!
