If you have as much Hendrix material as you have been able to find and you still look in the hope you will come across a rare, raw even embrionic version of the songs you love then look no further. This double cd album has all of the above with early riffs, rough recording and engaging dialogue it had me riveted from start to finish. Track 2 Little Wing has got to be one of the best instumental versions I have heard with more freedom and power than the eventual studio version. Track 7 Takin care of no business is a real treat with killer dialogue at the start it's guaranteed to make you smile and imagine you were in the studio at the time. It reminded me of early small faces with the backing comments and obvious fun going on. Next is the broken beat and jazz driven sound of an early version of South saturn delta, perhaps the direction that Jimi was hoping to persue had it not been for his untimely departure, exellent work on drums by Mitch Mitchell glues the track and the rhythmic base and superb improvisation on Noels' base complete the sound. Next but one is the freeform and uplifting Stars that play with laughing Sam's dice, even though it's not the best quality sound it is not to be missed as the feedback soars from ear to ear the shouted lyrics reverbarate your senses.. The second version of Takin care of no business highlights Hendrix's obvious displeasure at the guy who shouts to loud and blows his headphones! This version also has a cool sax accompaniment which really compliments Jimi's own attempts at mouth trumpet....great fun Disc 2 opens with Noel Reddings drug referenced take of the Martin Luther King speech, totally psychadelic and a real sixties sound. The samba rhythm and sitars are not usually associated but they come together in track 3 Little One and fuse together in a mind blowing track that you instantly want to listen to again, well you can because there is take two of the song next which has subtle changes and is without the vocalisations by Jimi that you could hear in the first take. The next is one of my favourites Driving south and although the quality is not the best, the version is . With the relentless driving bass and the sweet lead guitar licks, loads of feedback it really gives you the impression that this take was played LOUD! You can almost hear the thought process during this take and this early version starts to take shape before decending into seargeant peppers lonely hearts club band....nice. Jazz Jimi Jazz is as you would expect in as much as it is another freeform jam from the threesome which is made up on the spot and develops as it goes into a mesmerising high and low spot, take your turn episode of improvisation culminating in a driving riffed beat that almost turns into voodoo chile at one stage. This is 12 minutes and 8 seconds of pure genius. Track 9 is Cherokee Mist and it's beginning takes you higher with a real spanish/ classical harmonic sound before building to a crecendo and seamlessly into the national anthem of England "God save the Queen", this should be the version they use for the world cup this year as it really stirs your senses, although not with national pride but with the genius of Hendrix (so maybe not eh?) Last but certainly not least is Three Little Bears, a crazy slapstick lyric and total fun with a great riff and lead solo. Even Jimi can't handle this one, although he manages to pull it back together despite laughing. Listen to Axis Outtakes and enjoy.Read full review
A must if you're devoted Hendrix fan but even I'm struggling with the absolutely awful sound quality of these sessions. They must be pre mixed recordings as they sound truly awful. I've listened to this once for a rarity factor and will probably never listen to it again. A real shame but it is what it is, the title says it all "outtakes". Expect no more and you won't be disappointed.

The few good songs have already been released. The rest is junk, often with really poor sound quality.
