This is a perfect example of a concept album wherein the message lies hidden deep beneath the surface. The message, once uncovered, is clear: don't take yourself or life too seriously. There will always be people who love music and those who spend much of their lives seeking to suppress it. In the end, it doesn't really matter, because music lives on in your head and your heart. Getting into the music business is what will drive you insane because of all the control issues and power struggles within, and without, the band. So just stay home, take your guitar and bend the string like "reen-too-teen-noo-nee-noo-nee..." and you'll be fine. Excellent album, the humor is there but heavily shadowed by the musical arrangements. The music is top-notch, as only FZ could have provided.Read full review
Classic Zappa A tell of young Joe's journey from the garage to rock stardom to the reality of rock n roll decadence and Major Record Labelloyaty (yes right). A focus more on Frank's sardonic twisted sense of humor, with plenty of pot shots and under the table phrases only those who've one time in the Music Biz game would get. All the while there's still plenty of wickedly twisted music to be had. Why does it hurt when I... Hmmm,
Typical, perverse Frank Zappa.A story of a man scorned by a woman & his road to homosexuallity. While many of the songs are excellant, the story line is quite disturbing.I bought this album as always, because it is by Frank Zappa & you never know what you'll get.Frank Zappa is one of only a very few truly exceptional musicians who can successfully play just about any instrument in any music genra.
This album takes me back. What a strange yet phenomenal man Frank was. This is the album that defines Frank!!
