A very experimental album as most of Jon's albums were.. But this time he does variations on a few themes. His piano player is very complementary and supportive of the free form music. Jacky Terrasson really provides a creative platform. After many issuances on his own and with Brian Eno, along with Talking Heads and others. this album shows Jon as a trumpet player more than an effects composer, promoting world and new music. He reminds me a bit of Chet Baker and Jon's spirit really shines through in Estate Summer. That last track shows his feeling for clean and positive notes and the joy he had playing trumpet. A good spirit whose creativity always inspires. This CD is harder to find but provides a deeper dive into the man's capabilities and sensitivities. I wish that he had also released an album of jazz standards. I believe that would have been a particularly remarkable showing of his talents. RIP Mr. Hassell. Read full review
