I'm such a Van Hunt fan. He is a musical innovator, unafraid to make music that does not sound like typical R&B. He is an extraordinary songwriter (did you know he wrote Dionne Farris' "Penny with a hole in it" from that classic "Love Jones sdtk.?) Really he's a poet who plays a mean guitar. Shame this guy doesn't get the airplay he deserves, and that I have yet to see a video from this album on TV- you gotta go to Yahoo music to see a couple videos and interviews w/ this guy. Helped produce a lot of Rahsaan Patterson's stuff, another Godsend of a voice... Van's often compared to Prince. Things could be worse... This album is straight rock in a couple spots, but mostly guitar heavy smooth r&b and funk. One of those albums any music lover could dig. Van even covers Iggy Pop's "no sense of crime," showing his versatility. It's not quite neo-soul, not quite funk, but it is too good for one category.Read full review
Glad that I found this artist's CD on ebay. His music was featured throughout the movie "Just Wright", and I was intrigued. Even ordered his 2nd CD, but I liked this one better.
Only liked about 3 to 4 tracks. I expected more through out the entire CD. It is ok but not all star quality to me personally.
