Lots of highs and lows on this one for me. There are definite pieces of awesomeness on here, such as the way he plays around with noises near the end of "Music Box Innards" to make it a riff on its own, and the incredibly deep, layered opening riff of "Stun Pike & the Jack in the Box Head." The low point, and maybe my general beef with the album, is his getting a little too noise happy sometimes. The worst offender to me is "The Android of Notre Dame." It was so cool as a Dimebag tribute, but this version is just loaded with unnecessary bleeps and bloops that kinda ruin it for me a bit. I love how he plays around with quirky things like this, but in the case of Android, it's just too much for me, like they're in there for the sake of noise. Possibly Zorn-influenced? Favorite song: "Music Box Innards" by a hair (over "Frankensuess Laboratories") Favorite moment: Tie for opening of "Stun Pike..." and the buzzy riff near the end of "Music Box..." Least favorite moment/song: "The Android of Notre Dame" All in all, lots of fun to be had, despite the occasional irritation. I'll give it a 3.5/5.Read full review
For any Buckethead fan or collector you simply have to own this cd, no doubt about it. My favorite recent releases of BH are Pepper's Ghost, Bansheeboot, Crime Slunk Scene - but these first if you don't have them but make sure to add Kaleidoscalp collection sooner or later.
Seems to echo his early recordings while building on what he has learned at present. A live band always helps. Never a dull moment on this disc. You will be entertained.
First half pretty good but it decays after that. Great guitar in places. Excellent CD overall but comapred to his other releases this one is somewhere in the middle.
