Absolutely amazing! Black Market album perfomed in a brilliant and electrifying performance by Zawinul, Short, a young Alex Acuna, Manolo Badrena and the great Jaco Pastorius, very young and at his best! His solo track "Portrait of Tracy" is breathtaking!!! I mean, I'm not exagerating! It's until nowadays one of the standards for all the wannabes fretless bass players of today! Alex Acuna and Manolo Badrena steal the show in an amazing drum-percussion solo, very energetic, very funny and theatrical! Acuna tears the drums apart! And the climax with them two in the congas and timbales is amazing! In one little shot, you can spot Jaco Pastorius dancing while drying the sweat out of his face during Acuna-Badrena solo. Short and Zawinul, during their sax-keyboards solo, for a few bars you can actually hear some hints of what I would be the great "Birdland"! It's just plain awesome. I bought this dvd after reading jaco Pastorius's biography. Being a music fanatic I wanted to see and hear for myself what the mystique is/was surrounding Jaco and this Weather Report performance didn't disappoint at all. Each musician was superb in their own element. I'm not what I'd call a jazz afficianado, but I thoroughly enjoyed this dvd and I would highly recommend this dvd to any music fan who values technical and complicated musicianship. From the bass playing by Jaco to the horns, piano, drums, percussion, etc the musical performance was terrific. I am now a fan of Weather Report and have been seeking out other similar bands such as Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra just to name a couple of other excellent bands!
One of the most powerful and amazing performances of WEATHER REPORT. JOE ZAWINUL, JACO PASTORIOUS, WAYNE SHORTE, ALEX ACUÑA and MANOLO BADRENA delivers a superb set just after recording the fabulous BLACK MARKET album. Great audience at the classic MONTREUX FESTIVAL. A true gem and a real chance to see this great band on the peak of its musical journey. FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
