  • a gem of an album

Now, as then, Lodger has always been one of Bowie's very best albums. There are some very strange experimental songs, some essays in irony, and some of the artist's very best rockers. Depite "Boys Keep Swinging" and "D.J.," which were the first two singles, the two that cook are "Red Sails" and "Look Back in Anger." Except for "Ashes to Ashes," nothing on Scary Monsters is as good as these tracks. On the now-out-of-print Ryko version, there was a bonus track from the Lodger sessions called "I Pray, Ole," which is lyrically embarrassing, but one of the most finger-snapping, catchy things Bowie's ever recorded. In this manner, it reminds one of two of the bonus tracks on the Ryko Man Who Sold the World: "Lightning Frightening" and "Holy Holy." In its overall feel, Lodger approximates what ...

  • Yassassin

I know in past reviews I have said that other albums are Bowie's best album but this time I really mean it. Lodger is Bowie's masterpiece. Brian Eno contributes a lot here and every once in a while this sounds more like David Byrne or The Talking Heads than Bowie (Repetition etc.)After listening to this you realize what artists like Terry Scott Taylor (Swirling Eddies, Daniel Amos) were trying to be...Lodger. 5 Huge Stars.

  • Bowie at his traveling man best....

Super album with tracks that are very african in their tone and style. Great dance tunes as well such as "I am the DJ". This is a very different Bowie album in that it is really stylized, hip and full of great bowie lyrics..A must for the true Bowie fan!!
