Who could pass up a chance to get a dvd of one of the world's most influential Rock bands performing live at the height of the peak of their art? Not I. This dvd has all of the members of the Moody Blues that created symphonic rock. The selection of music is incredible, and the live vocals are astounding. One drawback is that not all the selections are performed,(or at least heard)live. Some selections seem to have the studio arrangements dubbed over the live performance, why I do not know. But the music is still incredible. It is a look at the past when great musicians made great music
This is NOT a live concert. It can barely be called a performance. It is the Moodys live in some club pretending to put on a show. The music is canned, NOT live, and the Moodys lip synch and try to look like they are actually playing but it is so easy to see they are not playing "live". Every track has a controlled volume fadeout at the end just like a track would end on an album or cd. On top of that, the camera work and editing are terrible and VERY amateurish. The cameraman spends more time shooting from behind than band than from the front. I cannot believe this is an authorized release. The guys are young and thin, but unless you are a diehard fan that just has to have every thing available about the Moodys, this dvd is not even worth viewing let alone buying.
I AM A HUGE FAN OF THE MOODY BLUES, AND HAVE BEEN SINCE BIRTH, BUT WHEN I STARTED THIS DVD I WAS IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF... I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS THE BAND ITSELF OR THE EDITORS THAT PIPED IN THE "STUDIO" MUSIC BUT IT STINKS... THE PLAYING AND THE SINGING DOESNT MATCH UP VERY WELL AT ALL. SOME OF THE TUNES ARENT DUBBED OVER, BUT MOST OF THEM ARE. I'VE SEEN THE MOODIES SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY ARENT UP THERE LIP SYNCING. ALL AND ALL THE FOOTAGE IS SPECTACULAR, AND THE SONG LIST IS TOTALLY SWEET. THE OVERDUBBING MIGHT FOOL A FIRST TIME LISTENER, BUT NOT AN AVID FAN. LEAVE THE RAW LIVE EXPERIENCE JUST THAT! JUST THINK IF THEY WOULD HAVE DUBBED OVER WOODSTOCK FOOTAGE WITH STUDIO MUSIC!!!--- SHANE
It's nice to see the Moodies in the early parts of their Career - 1970 is about 3 years in, and they hadn't yet released the Question of Balance, nor Every Good Boy. The opening song, however, you can tell has been dubbed in. Not sure why. It could be that the soundboard was having issues - I've seen no explanation to it all. Still, it's from my Era and it is worth having in the Collection. Being able to watch Mike Pinder, one of the original founding members is always a good thing.
This new dvd of the Moody Blues is one of their best performances by the the band since the 2001 Albert Hall performances and carries the Moodies into the new millium for a new generations of fans. With the retirement of Ray Thomas in 2003, alot of the fans were worried that the Moody Blues would loose the magical sound of their music. With the new talents of session player the lovely Nora Mullins, that gap was filled right away and closed the worries of the Moody Blues long time fans with her amazing performance of the flute on several of the Moody Blues long time classic songs including Night in White Satan. The Moody Blues have made some changes in their concert performances as well in this dvd. They have added a big screen that enables them too show music videos ( alot that were shown on MTV in the 1980's) while performing the song of that video for the concert. Flashback a lot of pictures of the band's history and too show time lines of their many albums that they have crafted over their long musical careers. Some of the classic songs from their albums that the Moody Blues never performed live in concert over the years were added for a new musical format. Musical changes with one such song from the 1978 album Octave: Stepping in a Slide Zone was performed live and for the first time. From the 2003 Christmas album DECEMBER: (their first studio album since 1999's Strange Times), a song from that album called December Snow was performed and was some of the new material added too make these new musical changes for musical enhancement of the concert performances. So without giving away too much of the Moody Blues magical performance from this GREAT and FANTASTIC new dvd, and for the many Moody Blues fans, always enjoying the music talents of Justin Haywood and John Lodge and drummer Graham Edge, this is a MUST dvd for every Moody Blues fan both older and newer!!
