the critics actually panned this album when it came out (about 30 years or so ago..) i guess hard-core ELP fans were expecting a more Keith Emerson synth-wizardry-dominant sound... what we used to call 'classical-rock' sort-of took a back seat to one full side of 3 - 4 minute pop-type ballads and borderline jingle junk (hey - personally, i happen to like that kind of stuff..!) and the solemn, almost brooding 'Memoirs...' - well, that still brings a tear to my eye... (of course, bear in mind that i was 30 years younger and stoned most of the time) hey, man - we can't turn back the clock, but we can still listen... and remember...
