Opinions are all over the place about Sid Barrett. One either gets his material musically or one doesn’t. Clearly Sid wanted this to be an honest look at where he was in that moment in his life. He put it out there, warts and all! That being said, as an amateur musician myself, I think this record is pure genius! As unintuitive as it may seem, the missteps in this work become an integral part of the whole. After multiple listens I only love this record even more. There are moments of pure magic happening here that perfectly capture the 60s psychedelic sound, especially the final cut on the album! I do find Barrett’s contributions to the old Pink Floyd sound more interesting and compelling such as “Arnold Lane” and “Bike” if you are as fascinated as I am with this tragic genius, his first solo album is a must if you can find it! I recommend the vinyl reissue!Read full review
