Fans of John McLaughlin's Mahavisnu Orchestra will be no stranger to Jerry Goodman amazing violin playing. The years have not dimished his talent for mixing diversere musical styles into a pleasing and accessible form. Rock, ethnic, and jazz formats blend effortlessly with classical style structures to create moments of sheer enjoyment for the lsitner. The songs on 'Ariel' highlight the melodic side of his playing allowing his breath taking solos to enhance the compostions. Seemingly simple chord progressions are expanded into deceptively complex forms with his violins weaving his magic throughout. Goodman displays incredible technical virtuosity and understanding of interaction with his backing muscians and the tracks here have a cohehernt flow and hang together extremly well as a whole album. A good outing form a prodigious talent, derseving of much wider recognition. TNR - March 2008 - UKRead full review
