This is not their best CD, but better than TapeHead for sure. This is mostly mid-tempo rockers, some mellow stuff and nothing too up-paced. The lyrics are somewhat dark, except the first song. Believe has a great riff and is positive. Manic and Yeah are mid-tempo rockers, with gentle harmonization akin to the popish Ear Candy. False Alarm is mellow like Goldilox or Summerland. Skeptical and Vegetable have some funky 70s guitar, with super solos and a Lenny Kravitz feel. Jenna has some offbeat snare that makes it just a tad better than the horrendous Sally. Static and Other Side drag too much. Skeptical has some creepy lead vox and lyrically speaks much of male lust, though King s X has never been mistaken for a kids band. And the burp at the end is totally juvenile and stupid.
I love King's X, I bought it because it was the last album I needed to complete the collection. I didn't like the album as much as the rest but it definitly has it's great qualities and a great spot amoung the other twelve or thirteen King's X albums I have. If you are getting into King's X I would say buy this album last or close to last, get the earlier stuff first or you may not appreciate what the band or this album has to offer your ears and mind.
Kings X has the best mix of heavy drop D, Beatlesque harmonies, variety of tones, so so good.
