When I was about 14, a freind gave me a copy of this on vinyl. No one had ever heard of this group, but the cover was very cool so it caught his attention at a flea market. I had never heard anything like it! It was the oddest music - hard rock with a violin! I played it over and over until it wore out, then bought 2 or 3 more and wore them out too. That was a long time ago, and when I came across on it CD I wondered if it would still sound as good to me. It Soooo Does! It's better than anything that this group did later - their hits weren't aywhere as complex or interesting. I would call this my all time favorite album ever, and I'm so old I still call them albums!
Masque is the third album by American rock band Kansas, released in 1975. The album was reissued in remastered format on CD in 2001. Masque saw the band shift from the heavy sound on Song for America to a more accessible style. Though the album itself was a commercial failure, this stylistic change would yield the band a breakthrough success with Leftoverture. The opening track, "It Takes a Woman's Love (To Make a Man)", was remixed for release as a single, but failed to gain attention.
Glad to see this classic rock album finally available on CD. Without a doubt the best of all the Kansas albums. Very tight musicianship, breaks that flow seamlessly from one to another, excellent harmony on the vocals, and some classical elements that blend perfectly with a hard rock backbeat. If you want to hear Kansas at their true best you'll want to buy this CD.
