Having been a fan of Duran Duran from 1981 until current,I feel like I have been somewhat let down by this CD. The music the band is currently putting out is NOTHING like the ORIGINAL music that so inspired all fans in the 80's. The band's new music is sounding more like Justin Timberlake's Timberland. I know that change is inevitable but I would not call this change it is more like immitation of today's Hip Hop sound. Simon and Nick, could you have at least kept some of the great synthesiser sounds and awesome compilation of musical score that you had a knack for in the 80's? This CD may be good for today's Hip Hop crowd, but if you are a seasoned Duran Duran fan..... I would say that this CD is probably going to be a let down.
My thought in listening to this CD was, "*sigh* they sure don't make them like they used to". I've been a Duran Duran fan since the 80's (Planet Earth, Rio, Seven and the Ragged Tiger) and in revisiting the Rio days, decided to check out their latest offering. No, it's not the Duran Duran from the 80's, but the more I listen to this CD, the more it grows on me. The songs are catchy, and you can't help but sing along once you get the lyrics....All in all, I'm pleased with it, and it seems to be a positive evolution for the boys from Birmingham.
This CD is the follow up to the reunited Duran CD Astronaut with all the five founding members. This release finds guitarist Andy Taylor once again leaving the fold and much to Duran's weakness. The tracks here are not as strong composition wise nor playing as on it previous CD.. without the added thrust of Taylor. Obviously he adds much to their pop/rock sensability along with a rocker's edge...hence they seem to waver in too much synths noodling land or white funk which is not exactly their strong suit. Also they attempt to mine current musical trends with unneeded collaborations from Tmberland and Justin Timberlake. Over all again the sum of it parts is greater than the individuals in Duran's case. I would highly recommend their Astronaut or Wedding album over this release.
A Great CD! Duran Duran Meets Timberland/Timberlake! Who would have thought? Falling Down the realease off the album is just a staple to whats left! The Valley is the 1st song on the CD and it hits Duran2 old style heights and shows off why John Taylor is such an important piece of the band as the song highlights a bass solo! Skin Divers is a dance tune that will really get your feet moving, and the over all concept of Timberland And Timberlake gel! A great find for your CD collection!
Always been a duran's fan. I could not miss this purchase. Excellent album. I strongly reccomand it. Further to the first five tracks, excellents but much influenced by Timbaland and his staff, the other tracks are more Duran style. I particularly love Dirty Great Monster, Zoom in and Last Man Standing. Best album after Duran Duran and Rio. Duran Duran should deserve more from international audience and reviewers.
