Michael Sadler is a great vocalist and for many years was (and still is) the front man and lead singer of the Canadian rock quintet Saga; who I’ve been listening to for over 30 years now! This album combines keyboards, guitars and drums to deliver a 'rock' based album which includes a number of 'soft-rock ballads' (somewhat similar in style to that of the band then really); but it is quintessentially because of Michael’s voice that the Saga feeling is very present on most of the tracks. The album contains 12 tracks but for me too many of the heavier tracks are a little weak and don’t really leave any lasting impression. Michael’s wife (Gwen) and stepdaughter contribute with backing vocals as part of a choir which give some songs on the album a gospel feel. This doesn’t always work but there are thankfully some exceptions, such as “Who’s Foolin’ Who” and “Too Much Time On My Hands”. “In The Name Of Love” is a well delivered ballad which again makes use of the choir. The title track is quite a strong song; mixing the softer side with some heavy guitar. It is though all about Michael’s, which is so undeniably linked with Saga that everybody will always hear the band’s sound and for me that’s not a bad thing. However, if I say I’ve had this album for over a year and played it on only a handful of occasions; but have played the track “Can’t Let Go” (another fantastic ballad) repeatedly (via other means) on many occasions you’ll know my overall thoughts on this album’s strength.Read full review
