Miles and his quintet (at that time, Miles on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor sax, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass & Philly Joe Jones on the drums) recorded several albums in two sessions on May 11 and October 26, 1956, resulting in four albums: Relaxin' with The Miles Davis Quintet, Workin' with The Miles Davis Quintet and Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, and this one, Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. I think they're all great, with some excellent playing. Maybe the most notable thing about this one is that Miles plays a blistering version of Dizzy's "Salt Peanuts." I don't think I've ever heard him play faster! Lots of fun -- highly recommended.

This is what listening to jazz is all about. Every track is a classic. My favorite is "Salt Peanuts". This album should be in any serious jazz collection. Recorded in 1954/55 and released in 1955, on Prestige Records 7200, the sound is superb. The personnel on the album are: Miles Davis - Trumpet John Coltrane - Tenor Saxophone Red Garland - Piano Paul Chambers - Bass Philly Joe Jones Drums Again you'll just really enjoy this album.
