I've been a huge Kansas fan since the 1970's, and I remember buying this (or trying to) in LP album form three times. Each time I got the album home and tried to play it (on my "record player!") I discovered that the album was warped! Ah ... the good ol' '70's!!! Anyway, here we are in the 21st Century and Kansas still ROCKS!!! I have a "Best Of" collection (on CD) that has a few of these songs on it, but I had to buy the Monolith CD to get everything. Personal favorites are On the Other Side, People of the South Wind, A Glimpse of Home, and Stay Out of Trouble. A great follow-up to Leftoverture and Point of Know Return.
What a joy it was to rediscover this recording. Loved it in tape form in my firebird's cheesy cassette player. But now, 30yrs later, listening to it loud on a pretty decent stereo brings out the genius in the production and to hear the intricate details of this incredible band. "How my soul cries out for you" and "Angels have fallen" stand way out from the radio-friendly hits that came from the album. Lots of blazing instrumental parts and complex bridges to showcase the guitars and violin. Just a really great CD no matter what decade you a from. rw
