I bought the CD more as a curiosity rather than because I like smooth Jazz. I have met Dr. Jack and sold him antique sheet music in the past at the local Royal Oak Flea Market some years ago. I also met him several times at the Ariana Gallery where his paintings were shown and they sell his signed art prints. So when i saw the CD it peeked my interest. I am a jazz fan but I’m not much of a modern smooth jazz fan. The CD is very well done for it’s genera.. Beautify scored and well performed. If you are a fan of Smooth jazz I do believe you will enjoy the CD for its music and as in interesting historical footnote.
I had an expectation that Dr. Jack Kevorkian was a more accomplished player. The liner notes bolstered this anticipation. His playing on most tracks consisted of small cameo instrumental passages near the end of the song, lacking any real musical creativity. The backing band, includng the tenor saxophone lead could have had a great stand alone musical statement without including Jack Kevorkian, who seemed greatly out of place here. A thorough disappointment
This album is awesome. As described, a time capsule of jazz and history.
