I first heard the track River People on a local radio station in Detroit hosted by a DJ named Electrifying MOJO! I was hooked after that. Weather Report has been a unique influence in the music industry and have produced several interesting albums. There will NEVER BE ANOTHER JACO PASTORIUS! Or Joe Zawinul. These guys are legendary in the music community. This is a great album for a enjoying the musical prowess of a couple of legends! Worth every penny.

Weather Report is extremely long on rhythmic talent. Melodic talent? Ehh, not so much. I bought the cd because I had heard of the band years ago when I played in my high school jazz band, but I had never actually heard any of their music back then. About the same time, I had heard of Jaco Pastorius, their virtuoso bass player, but I didn't even know he was in the band until I read it on the back of the cd.
Weather Report's eighth album is really that much of a essential record like the pervious efforts. The music is well jazz-pop fluff and the production is the main reason. Not to say that Pastorious's River People and Shortner's reworking of Pinocchio has their moments. Just stay away for the dreadful excuse for pop,"And Then", and the annoying title track. Over all something more of a catch then a keep.
As a huge Weather Report fan, this is one of their best albums. Fabulous compositions, bravo performance.

Weather Report's claim to commercial fame. And it kicks ass too! Saxophone, Drums, Electronic keyboards, absolutely killer bass lines by Jaco Pastorius (Rest in peace) Buy it, you won't be sorry. And buy one of the the early albums too, for comparison. Good stuff.
