The quality of this pressing is very good. The transfer and the album jacketing are first rate as well. It is rewarding to view album artwork in life size, not just in virtual spaces or small booklets. An added bonus is the "Fly on the Wall" 7" record. A great insight into the studio sessions that created this album. As for the actual music, it's raw and fresh. Having grown up only knowing the original Phil Spector overproduced Let It Be album I had no idea what really went into that product. It would be easy to pan and slander the original release now that the "original" has been released. To do so would serve no purpose. The original release definitely reflects the Spector style, a period style and the consumer of Beatle music at the time. In 1970 I doubt I would have appreciated Let It Be had it been "Naked". Now, much more mature, discerning and aware of the back story I can truly appreciate what Naked is. With a historical eye I also better appreciate what the original album is. "Naked" is like a fine wine that was put back years a go for later enjoyment. Now that it has been un-corked and decanted it is a real pleasure to sit back, sip it in and enjoy.Read full review
When the Beatles embarked upon the Let It Be project, the idea was to strip down to basics and be a rock-and-roll band again. The movie was meant to show a hard working band go from song ideas and rehearsals while we, the audience, got to be the fly on the wall. The movie ends with the now legendary rooftop concert, where we see the Beatles return to their roots and and play rock-and-roll. Psychedelia and studio wizardry had nothing to do with this project. Like many people my age, I grew up with the heavily produced Phil Spector version of the soundtrack. I suppose he felt he should bring in some of the orchestral touches that George Martin might’ve added, but Phil’s wall-of-sound handling was miles away from Martin’s finesse. Finally, fans can hear the raw honestly of these tracks without the distractions. These songs are so much more powerful and vivid in their “naked” form, the way the Beatles intended them to be.Read full review
